Govind is an engineer and a scientist by training, and is currently a PhD candidate at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, co-supervised by Dr. Grant Gordon and Dr. Jaideep Bains. His research seeks to uncover mechanisms that link chronic stress to the emergence of mood disorders like depression, and to improve tools for their treatment. In the lab, you might find him building advanced microscopes or performing brain imaging experiments.
Research Project
With CONP, he is developing an imaging technology that will enable high-throughput, low-stress, cellular-scale imaging of brain activity in awake, behaving mice within their home-cage environment. He believes it will enable the neuroscience community to perform more elegant experiments to understand the healthy and diseased brain, and that it may also improve the speed and quality of pre-clinical studies.
