Open Neuroscience Starter Kit
Rather than a lack of training materials, a clear challenge in neuroscience education today is navigating through thousands of tutorials, courses and guides, with no obvious place to begin or path to follow.
The Open Neuroscience Starter Kit began as the CONP’s curated, sequenced list of resources for researchers taking their first steps in open practice. It now reflects a collaboration between three partners:
- The Tanenbaum Open Science Institute (TOSI) contributes a curriculum: learning objectives across eight open-science competencies, and expert review of resources by its Training and Education working group.
- The CONP contributes a path: a guided, level-based progression organized according to how neuroscience trainees typically learn and work, from planning a study to sharing and reusing data.
- The International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) TrainingSpace contributes a curated library: more than a thousand openly licensed lessons, courses and study tracks.
Together, they offer both free exploration and guided paths through a wealth of educational materials. Experienced researchers can browse a growing library of reviewed resources, filtered by open-science area, neuroscience domain, or research stage, and newcomers can follow a guided route through the stages of a research project.
Every resource records its source and, separately, who vetted it, so new contributors and reviewers can join the effort. The collection behind the site is being prepared as an openly licensed, versioned dataset that others can reuse and extend.
This is a public beta, shared for feedback: content and labels are provisional. We welcome comments at info@conp.ca.
