Eli Kinney-Lang is a postdoctoral researcher dedicated to the investigation, design, and realization of brain-computer interfaces (BCI) for children with severely impacted motor and language development. His work is supervised by Dr. Adam Kirton at the University of Calgary and Alberta Children’s Hospital. Eli obtained his PhD at the University of Edinburgh, U.K., focusing on improving biomedical signal processing in BCI to boost its potential to benefit pediatric populations.    

Research Project

Early-life disease and injury to the brain may result in severe physical disability, effectively trapping children who otherwise remain cognitively aware in bodies which cannot move or speak. Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a technology which creates a direct communication channel between the brain and a computer, allowing such children new opportunities to participate in their world. This project aims to assist researchers in developing more child-focused BCI by providing a suite of tools, including access to clinical and other recorded brain signals from children.
